“Where you go, I will go…”
We had a great experience in rural Zambia when we went for outreaches a few weeks ago. Elizabeth forgot to carry her safety boots. When we reached a swampy muddy area, it became humorous when Weston opted to carry Elizabeth on his back.
As Weston carried Elizabeth, she teasingly began telling Weston that “where you go, I will go…” With laughter, Weston almost dropped her! The Lord’s work was however done as the couple came back rejoicing in the glory of fulfilling the Great Commission.
One soul at a time…
Robert and Deborah: Robert used to follow Weston on social media but they had never met in person. In November 2015, Robert sent a request for prayers for his sick wife in a Lusaka hospital; she had cervical cancer. Weston responded and went to pray for Robert’s wife. Sadly, eight days later, she died. Robert was devastated. Weston’s comfort and support towards Robert during this mourning period touched Robert. After the funeral, Robert decided to visit a small Church we had helped plant in Lusaka; the church was three months old. A few weeks later, Robert accepted Christ as his Savior. Like many other young professionals who find new life in Christ, Robert bid farewell to a life of partying and self-indulgence to embrace the joyous life in Christ. Weston began discipling him and he began experiencing steady growth in Christ. He is now a deacon in the church and a market place ambassador for Christ in his profession as an auditor. The loss of the wife and his new life in Christ made Robert resolve to launch an organization called Rakellz Dream Initiative (RDI), in memory of his late wife Rachael, to help address global social challenges. RDI was launched in March 2018, with Robert as Founder and Executive Director providing godly leadership. He works with a team of over 100 youths doing outreach activities and informational short films.
RDI is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising cervical cancer awareness and prevention programs in Zambia to help save lives. Robert believes that if he knew what he knows now about cervical cancer before his late wife became very sick, they may have saved her life. Weston serves as a Board member of RDI as well as serving as Robert’s mentor. Recently Robert was picked as a Mandela Washington Fellow of 2019 to attend some training by the US government in the US for six weeks. He was among the 700 young African leaders who were picked out of over 78,000 applicants in Africa. Amongst people serving in RDI is a diligent young lady called Deborah who is helping run it passionately as a volunteer leader. Deborah is a believer.
On 17 August 2019, Robert and Deborah were joined in holy matrimony. It is amazing to note that the discipler/disciple relationship started when Weston responded to a distress call from Robert. One act of kindness and compassion may change a life or more. Through his profession, RDI, community and wherever he goes, Robert has continued to represent Christ with joy.
