A Long Trip

Looking forward to the weekend after a busy week, I was a little disappointed when I remembered I had to go to my cousin’s wedding. I feel bad saying that about my cousin’s wedding, but in my defense, it was long drive. Ten hours from Indiana to Virginia and my brothers and I, being irresponsible as usual, left late. So, I was looking at a 10 hour drive straight through the night to arrive at around 5 o’clock in the morning. Yes, we debated whether we should turn around and say our car broke down. In the end, we just kept grumbling long enough until we ended up in Virginia.

At the wedding itself, I quickly became glad that I had come. There was something special about the wedding itself. Both families coming from Christian households and celebrating this special moment together, and continually keeping God first in the whole process. There was so much joy and love throughout the wedding. I was able to connect with family that I hadn’t seen in years and able to see God working in lives everywhere.

All this helped me remember how important community is in our walk with Christ. I had just been through a long week academically and wasn’t thinking a long drive to a wedding would be conducive of a relaxing weekend, but I obviously was wrong. In community, God reminded me that being with Him is where true joy and love comes from. I selfishly wanted to put my plans first as the weekend started, but in the end, it worked out to where God led me where I needed to be to find Him.
